Excellent report. Would be even better if you clubbed it with the impact this will have on the various fertiliser companies, and the gas supplying companies. Also, some insight on how the fertiliser industry's productivity vis-a-vis capacity stands compared to a global benchmark. Looking forward to more insightful reports. Many thanks!

the question that naturally arises is why haldia fertiliser is not in the revival map along with barauni, sindri. the picture was not that rosy few yrs back considering the advent of organic manure and its aggresive prmotion.

An interesting article. However the consumption of nutrients and other fertilizers - except UREA- by majority of small and medium farmers is suspect as they cant afford them. Who consumes these fertilizers? Do they pay tax from where these subsidies are provided? Anyway more the things change more they remain same Rich landowners will continue to thrive at the cost of landless laborers / small farmers. Anyway roti ,kapda , makan are the basic need any individual / family. Some day in future these initiatives by govt. will bear fruit bothe for individuals and investors.

      Hello Mr. Jha,

We can only hope that these policies will start showing the desired results. If not, the burden on the fertilizer companies will do nothing with increase the working capital requirement and thereby thrashing their balance sheets.

On the farmer's end, even through the P&K fertilizers are costly, they have to use them so as to maintain the required nutrient ratio, and which is exactly what is happening, but in a scale, way smaller than the usage of urea.

Overall, thank you very much for your insights on the sector. Also, dont forget to read Everything You Need To Know About The Indian Retail Industry for further insights into that sector.

Good Analysis for taking a decision to safe bet on fertilizer stocks for an investor. The otherside of the coin i.e., to help the poor farmers for receiving the full subsidy government officials should introduce adhar linked sales so that the intermediaries will not hijack the benefits of real farmers by driving them to suicides.

Excellant analysis. I sincerely hope the mandarins in GOI will take all that is needed to save subsidy of nearly Rs. 30K crores by strictly monitoring the implementation of the lofty policies framed and thereby reduce the snowballing deficeit and adequately reimburse the fertilizer industry. Having said that, as an investor I would like to know the prospects of investing in RCF, GSFC, GNFC< Coromondel Fertilizer & Rallis India at this juncture.
