India Market Recap

Indian equity benchmarks rallied over 1% on Thursday, supported by strong buying in banking, FMCG and IT stocks. The BSE Sensex surged 905.01 points, or 1.24%, to close at 74,151.04, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 237.90 points, or 1.05%, to settle at 22,936.75. The Bank Nifty also strengthened, gaining 642.25 points, or 1.18%, to end at 54,909.65. The broad-based rally indicated improved buying interest across key sectors, although global developments, crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions remain important factors for market direction. On the technical front, Nifty support is placed around 22,800–22,750, while resistance is seen in the 23,100–23,150 range.

US Market Recap

US equities opened lower on Thursday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite under pressure following financial results from several prominent companies that fell short of Wall Street expectations. The S&P 500 declined 0.5%, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.4%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also traded 0.6% lower. The weakness reflected investor concerns over corporate earnings and the outlook for major companies, particularly in the technology sector. Market sentiment remained cautious as investors assessed earnings performance, valuations and the potential implications for broader equity-market trends.

Asian Market Update

Asian markets were trading mixed on Friday, the last trading session of the week, as investors remained cautious ahead of the Bank of Japan's (BoJ) monetary policy decision. Among regional indices, Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 1.47%, while the broader Topix index edged 0.05% lower. South Korea's Kospi plunged 3.35%. In contrast, New Zealand's NZX 50 rose 0.33%, while Australia's ASX 200 gained 1.02%.

Commodity Check

Crude oil prices declined on Thursday as prospects of renewed peace negotiations between the US and Iran eased concerns over potential supply disruptions in the Middle East. Brent crude futures fell 44 cents to settle at $114.88 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures declined 78 cents to close at $102 per barrel. The pullback followed reports that US Vice President JD Vance had contacted Iranian Security Council chief Mohsen Rezaei in an effort to restart peace negotiations, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cited US officials and people familiar with the discussions. The possibility of renewed diplomatic engagement offered some relief to energy markets amid elevated geopolitical risks. However, crude prices remain high, and any breakdown in negotiations or further escalation could renew concerns over global energy supplies. For India, sustained elevated oil prices could increase import costs, add to inflationary pressures and weigh on corporate margins and market sentiment.
