India Market Recap

Indian equity benchmarks, the Sensex and Nifty 50, ended Tuesday's volatile session largely unchanged as investors remained cautious amid elevated crude oil prices and persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The BSE Sensex declined 8.08 points, or 0.01%, to close at 73,598.67, while the Nifty 50 eased 3.45 points, or 0.02%, to settle at 22,749.75. The Bank Nifty underperformed the broader market, falling 0.72% to end at 53,974.90. The muted closing reflected a wait-and-watch approach as investors assessed global market cues, energy prices and geopolitical developments. On the technical front, Nifty support is placed around 22,650–22,575, while resistance is seen in the 22,850–22,925 range.

US Market Recap

US equities opened higher on Tuesday, October 27, as investors positioned themselves ahead of major technology-company earnings. Easing crude oil prices ahead of the Federal Reserve's latest policy decision also provided some relief to market sentiment. By 9:31 a.m. ET (7:01 p.m. IST), the Nasdaq Composite had gained 0.42% to 26,279.81, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.33% to 7,701.76. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.28% to 52,361.58. Investors remained focused on corporate earnings, developments in the technology sector and the Fed's policy guidance for indications about the outlook for economic growth and interest rates.

Asian Market Update

Asian markets traded higher on Wednesday, tracking gains on Wall Street as investors awaited the US Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision later in the day. South Korea's Kospi surged as much as 3.7% after chipmaker SK Hynix reported strong third-quarter results, with revenue rising 328% year-on-year and operating profit jumping 632%. Japan's Nikkei 225 advanced 1.08%, while the broader Topix index gained 0.58%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 also moved higher, rising 0.46%. The strong performance in South Korea highlighted renewed buying interest in semiconductor stocks, while the Fed's policy announcement remained a key event for global market direction.

Commodity Check

Brent crude prices rose on Wednesday after declining for two consecutive sessions, as investors monitored Israel's election results, renewed diplomatic efforts in the Middle East and developments surrounding the conflict involving Iran. Brent crude, the international benchmark, was trading 1.22% higher at $115.10 per barrel at the latest check. Market participants are assessing whether political developments in Israel and diplomatic engagement among regional powers could influence the course of the conflict and reduce the risk of disruptions to global oil supplies. However, uncertainty surrounding the Middle East continues to keep crude prices elevated and volatile. For India, sustained high oil prices remain a concern due to their potential impact on import costs, inflation, the current account balance and corporate profitability.
