US Market Recap

US equities advanced on Wednesday as developments surrounding SpaceX and Tesla encouraged investors to return to technology stocks. The Nasdaq Composite gained 1.05% to close at 26,702.86, while the S&P 500 rose 0.58% to settle at 7,757.17. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also moved higher, climbing 360.21 points, or 0.69%, to end at 52,856.09. The gains indicated a recovery in risk appetite, with technology-related buying supporting the broader market. However, investor sentiment remains sensitive to corporate developments, earnings announcements and geopolitical risks.

Asian Market Update

Asian markets traded mixed in early Thursday dealings, with South Korean equities declining 0.2%, while Japanese stocks edged higher. The mixed performance reflected a cautious regional mood as investors assessed global technology-sector trends, corporate earnings and ongoing geopolitical developments.

Commodity Check

Crude oil prices were mixed on Wednesday as concerns over potential supply disruptions in the Middle East kept energy markets volatile. Attacks on tankers near the Strait of Hormuz and Saudi energy facilities heightened concerns over the security of regional oil supplies. Brent crude futures edged up 3 cents to settle at $108.82 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined 67 cents to $97.15 per barrel. Geopolitical risks remained elevated after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said naval mines had prevented three tankers from passing through the Strait of Hormuz via routes Tehran considered unauthorised. The IRGC also claimed that two tankers were set ablaze following explosions involving mines near an unauthorised crossing point. These developments underline the continued risks to shipping and energy flows through a key global oil transit route. For India, sustained high crude prices could increase import costs, add to inflationary pressures and weigh on market sentiment.
