India Market Recap
Indian equity benchmarks extended their rally for the fifth consecutive session on Wednesday, November 4, with the Sensex and Nifty 50 gaining over 0.5% each. Buying interest in Auto, Metal and Realty stocks supported the broader market performance. The BSE Sensex advanced 383.55 points, or 0.50%, to close at 77,301.40, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 149.75 points, or 0.63%, to settle at 23,960.60. The Bank Nifty also rose 373.55 points, or 0.67%, to end at 55,913.60. Indian equity indices are expected to open higher, tracking positive global cues, the outcome of the US midterm elections and a sharp decline in crude oil prices. Continued buying interest and easing geopolitical concerns may support near-term sentiment. On the technical front, Nifty support is placed around 23,700–23,800, while resistance is seen in the 24,200–24,300 range.
US Market Recap
US equities rallied sharply on Wednesday as investors welcomed the decisive Democratic victory in the US midterm elections and President Donald Trump's acceptance of the results. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained over 1,000 points at the opening, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also moved higher. However, concerns over potential restrictions on data centre expansion continued to weigh on sentiment towards artificial intelligence-related stocks. The Dow initially advanced 2.25% to 52,953.38, while the S&P 500 rose 1.21% to 7,660.65 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.12% to 25,656.67. The rally strengthened further during the session, with the Dow closing 3% higher at 53,356.12, gaining more than 1,500 points. The S&P 500 ended 1.58% higher at 7,688.62, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.44% to 25,736.51. The strong performance reflected improved investor confidence following the election outcome, although technology-sector concerns remained a key area of focus.
Asian Market Update
Asian markets traded largely higher on Thursday, November 5, tracking strong gains on Wall Street following the Democrats' sweeping victory in the US midterm elections. Japan's Nikkei 225 advanced 0.70%, while the broader Topix surged 2.20%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 and New Zealand's NZX 50 also gained 1.56% and 1.85%, respectively. In contrast, South Korea's Kospi bucked the regional trend, declining over 2.5%. Overall, regional sentiment remained positive, supported by strong US market performance and easing concerns over geopolitical developments.
Commodity Check
Crude oil prices extended their decline on Thursday, with Brent crude trading below the $95-per-barrel mark after plunging nearly 9% in the previous session to reach a two-month low. Growing expectations of a possible de-escalation in the US–Iran conflict, following the Democrats' strong performance in the US midterm elections, eased concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supplies. Brent crude futures were last trading 0.14% lower at $94.50 per barrel. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was trading around $88 per barrel after settling 8.3% lower at $88.12 on Wednesday. Brent crude had declined 8.7% to settle at $94.62 in the previous session. Meanwhile, gold and silver prices rallied as the US dollar weakened to a one-month low following the US midterm election results. A weaker dollar makes dollar-denominated gold more affordable for overseas buyers, potentially supporting demand. In India, the upcoming Dhanteras festival is also contributing to domestic demand for precious metals. MCX Gold futures for December delivery surged over 2.7% on Wednesday, November 4, to settle at Rs. 1,43,234, moving above the Rs. 1,40,000 level. MCX Silver futures for December delivery also recorded strong gains, rising nearly 5% to close at Rs. 1,87,735.
