India Market Recap

Indian equity benchmarks ended higher on Friday, October 30, the final trading session of the month, supported by gains in IT, pharma and healthcare stocks. The BSE Sensex advanced 308.49 points, or 0.42%, to close at 74,459.53, while the Nifty 50 gained 116.35 points, or 0.51%, to settle at 23,053.10. However, the Bank Nifty underperformed the broader market, declining 222.70 points, or 0.41%, to end at 54,686.95. The benchmark indices closed in positive territory despite weakness in banking stocks, reflecting selective buying across key sectors. On the technical front, Nifty support is placed around 22,900–22,800, while resistance is seen in the 23,200–23,300 range.

US Market Recap

US equities declined sharply on Friday as disappointing results from Intel and Amazon heightened concerns over artificial intelligence spending and the outlook for technology companies. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.09% to close at 51,770.31, while the S&P 500 declined 1.82% to settle at 7,580.07. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.86% to end at 25,437.00, marking its steepest one-day percentage decline since early June. The Nasdaq also stood 7.8% below its record closing level recorded on October 6. The sell-off reflected investor concerns over technology-sector valuations, the scale of AI-related investments and whether expected returns will justify the spending. The weakness in US equities could influence global market sentiment in the near term.

Asian Market Update

Asian markets traded largely lower on Monday, November 2, tracking losses on Wall Street as investors assessed geopolitical developments in the Middle East and awaited fresh manufacturing activity data. Japan's Nikkei 225 and Topix declined 0.42% and 0.53%, respectively, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.37%. South Korea's Kospi traded largely flat, whereas New Zealand's NZX 50 fell 1.19% at the time of reporting. Investor sentiment remained cautious amid concerns over technology-sector weakness, geopolitical uncertainty and the outlook for global economic activity. Upcoming manufacturing data could provide further insights into regional business conditions and demand trends.

Commodity Check

Brent crude prices declined towards $111 per barrel on Monday, retreating from recent four-year highs as investors weighed the possibility of a diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East against the risk of renewed US military action against Iran. Qatari and Iranian officials continued discussions for a third consecutive day, seeking an agreement to end the US–Israel war on Iran ahead of the US midterm elections. However, Tehran has warned that any fresh attacks could trigger retaliatory strikes against US and Israeli targets in neighbouring countries. US President Donald Trump said Washington would refrain from launching further attacks on Iran before the elections and indicated that negotiations were progressing, although the possibility of military action after the elections remains open. Meanwhile, OPEC+ agreed over the weekend to maintain its existing oil production targets through December as the group continues to assess global supply and demand conditions.
