US Market Recap
US stock futures traded mixed as investors awaited Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech for guidance on interest rates and the economic outlook. The S&P 500 was up 0.11%, while the Dow Jones gained 0.24%. The Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.07%. Investors remained cautious ahead of further signals on the Fed’s policy direction.
Asian Market Update
Asian markets opened lower on Monday following hawkish comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, which increased expectations of a possible interest-rate hike next month. South Korea’s Kospi fell 3.06%, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 2.07%. The Topix dropped 0.7%, while Australia’s ASX 200 remained largely unchanged.
Commodity Check
Crude oil prices rose more than $1 a barrel after the US carried out strikes on an Iranian island in the Strait of Hormuz, triggering retaliation from Tehran. Brent crude gained 1.23% to $89.18, while WTI rose 1.10% to $84.32. Despite renewed tensions, improving oil flows through the Strait have helped limit supply concerns. However, shipping activity remains subdued, with only a few commodity vessels passing through the waterway over the weekend.
